Defeating the Curve ~
We, Scoliosis in Oman team, are a group of people that provide support to Scoliosis Warriors in Oman by sharing our experiences and continuously pursuing for better treatment on Scoliosis.
What is Scoliosis?
It is the condition that usually manifests early in young children and adolescents where the spine curves sideways in an unnatural manner. Depending upon the severity of the condition, the spine may take on the shape of either the letter “S” or the letter “C”, rather than just being straight.
Scoliosis Facts
- Scoliosis is two times more common in girls than boys
- Over 90% are idiopathic (cause is unknown)
- Scoliosis can be hereditary (genetic) but there is no correlation between the severity of curvature from one generation to other.
- Heavy school bags DO NOT cause scoliosis which a common misconception. Rather, heavy school bags may accelerate the progress of the curvature if someone already has Scoliosis.
What we do?
We provide support for Scoliosis Warriors by sharing our experiences, our research on the treatments available, and prompting fusion-less treatment for Scoliosis. We also provide awareness to various Scoliosis stakeholders.
Why are we focusing on Scoliosis Treatments?
They are many emerging new treatment for Scoliosis that is being proved effective and less invasive. Current research suggests that surgical treatment on Idoapathic Scoliosis is mainly cosmetic rather out of medical necessity. We strive to educate the patient on those facts before they make a decision on their treatment.
